Il volume raccoglie la produzione scultorea tra il 1932 e il 1971, ed è il frutto di una lunga ricerca tra fonti sparse ed eterogenee di fotografie, diapositive, cataloghi, documentazioni frammentarie e spesso incomplete. Questi preziosi quanto caotici materiali, rintracciati negli archivi di famiglia e in numerosi musei, istituzioni, gallerie, collezioni e archivi privati, chiariscono definitivamente dubbi e incongruenze relative a datazioni e attribuzioni. Dalla visione totale dell'opera emerge chiaramente come Raphaël sia stata una delle artiste più importanti del Novecento.
Il curatore evidenzia la cultura sfaccettata e l'identità ibrida su cui si innesta la sua opera sensibile ai temi biblici, mitologici, al femminile, segnata in particolare dal motivo della creazione e della maternità. Dai ritratti delle figlie all'imponente Fuga da Sodoma, attraverso le varie Niobe, Giuditta e Salomè, il volume finalmente testimonia l'evoluzione del personalissimo percorso creativo di Antonietta Raphaël, restituendo tutta la vitalità di una creazione originale la cui potenza affiora nitida nelle belle tavole fotografiche e nelle centoventisette schede tecniche ordinate cronologicamente, corredate di immagini e note tratte dai diari dell'Artista.
Un corposo capitolo intreccia, poi, all'analisi dell'opera la ricezione critica e le vicende biografiche documentate da copertine di cataloghi e stralci di lettere e diari. Una dettagliata nota bibliografica che copre il lungo arco temporale dal 1929 al 2014 e costituirà un indubbio punto di riferimento per appassionati e studiosi.

We are happy to announce Allemandi's publication of the general catalogue of Antonietta Raphaël Mafai's sculpture work, very much wanted by the Raphaël Mafai Studies Center. The long awaited book is edited by Giuseppe Appella in collaboration with Bruna Fontana. The volume, a collection of the artist's sculptural work produced between 1932 and 1971, is the result of a long and patient research, beginning with scattered and dissimilar sources, such as pictures, slides, inventories and incomplete records. The assembly and analysis of these precious albeit chaotic materials, conserved in family archives, various museums, institutions, galleries, private collections and other archives, definitively clarifies doubts and contradictions regarding dates and attributions. Simultaneously it heightens awareness of the work of one of the greatest female artists of the 20th century. An intense consideration by the editor introduces the multifaceted culture and hybrid identity of the artist, whose works are influenced by biblical, mythological and feminine themes, particularly marked by the motives of creation and maternity. Ranging from the portrait of the Daughters to the Fuga da Sodoma (Flight from Sodom), looking through the various works like Niove, Giuditta and Salomè, this volume testifies to the evolution of Antonietta Raphaël's truly distinctive creative path, restoring all the vitality of an original creation, whose strength is clearly shown by the fifteen precious photographic plates.
Also included are 127 technical data sheets in chronological order, complete with images and notes from the artist's diary.
A meaty chapter, comprising catalogue covers and excerpts from letters and diaries of the artist, connects the study of her work to the critical reception and events of her life. The book ends with a detailed biographical note that covers a long time frame, from 1929 to 2014, offering a reference point for enthusiasts and researchers.
